Planning advances for project to divert Platte water to Rep River

Posted in Water Watch

The Grand Island Independent Quotes: “Two steps were approved Tuesday by the Tri-Basin Natural Resources District directors toward construction of Nebraska’s first transbasin diversion project. At the Tri-Basin board meeting in Holdrege, the directors authorized General Manager John Thorburn to negotiate the purchase of a property owned by Malcolm and Nicole Dornhoff of Heartwell for the Platte-Republican Diversion Project being developed by Tri-Basin and the Alma-based Lower Republican NRD.

The plan is to divert excess Platte water, when available, from Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District’s E65 Canal, under Highway 23 west of Smithfield and into the east branch of Turkey Creek for transport to the Republican River.”
