Anyone planning a trip this weekend to Willow Creek Reservoir should avoid swimming. The state says toxic algae blooms in the lake pose a health risk.
The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality tested the water at Willow Creek State Recreation Area this week and found elevated toxin levels produced by blue-green algae blooms, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
The park, northwest of Norfolk, is open for fishing, boating and camping, but visitors should avoid in-water activities like swimming or water skiing. Dog owners are urged to keep pets out of the lake and not let them ingest the water.
