Each of the city’s department heads were asked to present future needs for their facilities and services, as the mayor, administration and council start looking at the budget for next year (and well into the future) and talking about the city’s finances.
York Public Works Director Mitch Doht talked about the water, wastewater and landfill departments, explaining capital needs and finances to the city council.
“The water department infrastructure and finances are strong,” Doht said. “We are starting to build significant funds for future capital projects, including a possible new water treatment plant. The water department will also have a large infusion of cash towards the end of this fiscal year, when we make an SRF claim for the Lincoln Avenue water main project and the water system master plan project. Along with that loan money, which has 15 percent loan forgiveness, will come bond payments which the department can handle. Rates are now keeping up with cost of service. No rate increase is expected for the next fiscal year.
