Indianola's plans to built a new waste water treatment facility north of town are on hold after the Warren County Board of Adjustment shot down a special use permit the city needs to build the facility.
“The city will be evaluating our options and next steps,” City Manager Ryan Waller said. “From the city’s standpoint, we feel the application was in proper order. We’ve worked with neighbors in the past two years on design and layout in order to minimize the impact on the surrounding area.”
Indianola wants to build a $34.5 million facility on 18 acres northwest of the city limits near the intersection of Grimes Street and 110th Avenue. The facility would replace the city's existing water treatment facility at 1180 Hoover St., which is 40 years old.
The current plant does meet state standards, Waller added. The new facility would allow for technology advances that would return cleaner water to the county's stream after it is treated.
