Spring runoff contributing to different taste in MUD tap water

April 2, 2019

Omaha World-Herald :

Metropolitan Utilities District customers may notice a difference in the taste of their tap water, an MUD spokeswoman said Monday.
Flooding, increased snowmelt and rainfall all are factors, Tracey Christensen said.

“Although the district has not increased the amount of chlorine in the water, we have increased the amount of time the chlorine is exposed to the water before converting it to chloramines,” Christensen said. “This may cause changes in taste and odor.”

The water still is safe to drink, she said.

“We expect this runoff and treatment process to continue for several weeks,” Christensen said.
