The Sergeant Bluff City Council is considering raising water rates this summer to help pay for a handful of water infrastructure projects.
The council on Tuesday passed the second reading of a proposed rate increase that would raise its monthly water service charge by 10 percent, from $15 to $16.50, and its usage rate by 15 percent, from $4.78 to $5.50 per 1,000 gallons.
For a typical family using 6,000 gallons of water per month, the monthly charge would increase from $43.68 to $49.50. If it passes all three readings, the rate increase would show up on residents' bills starting July 1.
