The Nebraska Department of Natural Resources received 97 comments on a water appropriation application for the proposed Platte-Republican Diversion project by Thursday’s deadline.Mike Thompson, head of DNR’s Permits and Registration Division, said his staff spent most of Friday sorting comments.Ninety were done under an option open to anyone. Thompson said they came from individuals, groups and agencies, with the vast majority opposed to the requested appropriation and quite a few were from Kansas.Seven submissions used a second option for entities with a legal right or interest that could be affected by the PRD application. Those comments required an objection and request for a public hearing. The seven entities are: Audubon Nebraska, Nebraska Public Power District, Lower Loup Public Power District, Cozad Ditch Company, and the North Platte, Central Platte and Lower Loup natural resources districts.
