A proposal to raise sewer rates nearly 30 percent over the next five years drew no opposition during a public hearing Tuesday.
Mayor Jean Stothert announced earlier this month that she would seek to increase sewer rates 5.25 percent each year for the next several years. Under the plan, a typical homeowner would pay about $60 a month by 2023.
The increases would help pay for upgrades to the city’s sewer system and improvements to reduce the amount of raw sewage that’s dumped into area waterways.
