Miles of drinking water pipe defective, lawsuit says

Argus Leader :

Up to nine miles of pipe that will be used to transport drinking water to residents in Worthington and Adrian, Minn. could be defective, prompting a lawsuit in federal court.

The Lewis &> Clark Regional Water System, which supplements the city of Sioux Falls’ water supply, argues the pipe doesn’t have the proper exterior coating to provide long-term protection from corrosion. That could decrease the lifespan of the pipe, costing Lewis &> Clark more money.

The pipe in question is steel and 24 inches in diameter. It was part of a 10-mile segment that is scheduled to begin supplying treated drinking water this year, said Troy Larson, Lewis &> Clark’s executive director.

The legal dispute involves Carstensen Contracting Co., the contractor that installed the pipe, and the manufacturer, NOV Ameron.
