A national civil-engineering group released its report card on Iowa’s infrastructure Thursday, giving the state’s roads, bridges, dams and levees middling to poor grades.

Overall, Iowa’s infrastructure earned a C on the American Society of Civil Engineers' report card — a slight improvement from the C- the state received in 2015.

Iowa's railroads, roads and solid waste facilities earned the highest marks, while its bridges, dams and waterways scored the lowest. The state earned a C or higher in seven of the 12 categories.

"The report card shows that Iowa has made some improvements to our infrastructure, but we still, clearly, have a long way to go," said Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer, who appeared via video at the release at the State Historical Museum of Iowa.
