Health alert remains at Rockford Lake southeast of Beatrice

Nebraska health officials say Rockford Lake southeast of Beatrice remains on a health alert because of toxic blue-green algae blooms.Testing by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality this week showed the lake continues to show high levels of toxins.Skin exposed to the toxin can develop rashes and blisters, and drinking tainted water could cause headaches, nausea and muscle pain.When a health alert is issued, signs are posted advising the public to use caution, and designated swimming beaches are closed.
