Lake Maloney is near 80 percent capacity which, with irrigation season winding down, is considered good for this time of year, according to civil engineer Cory Steinke, with Central Nebraska Power and Irrigation District.
He said more water is due to arrive this week from upstream reservoirs and the addition is being allocated to the lake’s environmental account. In turn, CNPPID will begin releasing water from the account into the Platte River in October as birds migrating south for the winter start to arrive.
