A water service agreement amendment was approved Monday by the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District directors to allow additional surface water diversions into Elwood Reservoir this fall.
The agreement is with the Platte River Recovery Implementation Program.
According to a press release, CNPPID civil engineer Cory Steinke said he expects excess Platte River water will be available after downstream target river flows for fall migration season are lowered starting Nov. 15. He said water for recharge should be available by the end of 2018.
Such diversions have been made into Elwood Reservoir for several years for groundwater recharge that benefits the Platte and Republican basins.
