Ankeny residents are searching for answers after June 30 flooding left liquid sewage feet deep in their basements.
Several people who attended a recent meeting on flood damages said this summer's backups were not the first time the city's sewer system has failed to keep up with heavy rains.

Ankeny was among the hardest-hit areas when June 30 rainstorms pummeled central Iowa, dropping nearly 9 inches of rain in the fourth-fastest growing city in the U.S.
In response, Ankeny has expanded the scope of two studies looking at the city's stormwater and sewage systems that were already in progress. The results are expected to help city staff identify and address weak points.
