About

Kurth serves as a lawyer and counselor to individuals, families, businesses, and public entities, with an emphasis on nonprofit and exempt organizations.  He has extensive experience advising on entity formation and governance, governmental bodies, and general business matters, tax exempt status, charitable gifts, endowments, estate planning, cy pres, dissolution, workouts and restructurings.  Formerly a fundraising executive and general counsel for a Midwestern university, Kurth also consults with public charities, private foundations, and trusts on development efforts, campaign readiness studies, board member selection and training, and grant processes.  He spends time in both our Seward and Lincoln offices.

Successes

Advised congregation on corporate, strategic, organizational, negotiation, and litigation matters throughout a disassociation dispute with regional denominational judicatory.
Oversaw and led initial organization, establishment, and operations of the first learning community, a political subdivision of the State of Nebraska, including establishing processes, procedures, policies, budget setting, taxation, public notice, and related issues.
Resolved inquiry by State of Nebraska's environmental agency on disposition of former school building, including issues related to watershed protection.
Led Office of Institutional Advancement, Concordia University, Nebraska and oversaw its Answering the Call campaign, with $93.7 million raised on a $65 million goal. At his departure in 2022, the top five fundraising years in university history occurred during his tenure.
